Once a month we sit down with a member of the Tremco Construction Products Australia (CPG) team to share some of their wisdom and expertise with us. This month we talked to our Victorian Specification Manager and one of the longest serving team members, Nadia Morassut...

Nadia Morassut Specifications Manager

1. Hi Nadia, you have been with Tremco for 30 years, what is the most memorable project that you have been part of and why?

PHRP Flemington, Vic.  It is an Affordable Housing project in Melbourne. It’s part of the Victorian Government’s Big Build scheme that aims to provide both social and affordable accommodation across Melbourne and parts of Victoria.  It was one of the first really significant projects I had the pleasure to be a part of, in my current role at Tremco CPG.

I worked closely with the architect, Six Degrees and later with our technical representative, Adam Deeley, the contractor, Watertite and the builder, Icon to work through the finer details.  It has been a really great team effort. I not only learnt a lot from the experience but also appreciated, seeing the positive impact this project will have from a social housing perspective and knowing we had some small part of that . This project was also instrumental in providing future opportunities for Tremco CPG in other Affordable Housing projects.

2. What advice would you offer to someone who is new to specifying waterproofing solutions?

At first it may seem daunting but it will get there. As you learn more about the systems we range and which part of the project they benefit and why, before too long, everything will fall into place. Never be afraid to ask questions. And remember we are always learning. So… be patient with yourself.

3. What new or emerging waterproofing technology most interests you and why?

I am passionate about new technologies that emerge which are not only manufactured in a more sustainable way (eg reduced waste, with safer materials/ ingredients etc.), but also produce a better result. Tremco CPG has a proud history in this sphere. An example in our current range is Alphaguard Bio. It is a high performance, dual component, composite, polyurethane system with excellent durability and UV resistance.

Alphaguard Bio provides a seamless, monolithic membrane for both new and remedial applications. With great solar reflectance (white topcoat), this product is a low VOC membrane that has minimal odour, thereby being less offensive for applicators and tenants alike. The ability to apply it over suitable existing membranes, including old bituminous sheet roofing, means that not only are there cost savings by not having to remove old membranes, there is less waste going into landfill.

4. What skills have been most useful in your role as Specification Manager for Victoria?

In this role, having developed good communication skills has enabled me to relate well to different people from all different spheres. Teamed with a good eye for detail, (or so I’m told 😉), and rapport building skills has aided me well, whether it be assessing projects for critical waterproofing/ flooring solutions, writing specifications or presenting one of our educational series of CPDs.

5. What is the best part of your job?

The diversity of projects I am involved in, along with both the people I work alongside, and the many people I have the pleasure of meeting, are the best part of my job.  Their support, shared conversations, shared laughter and sometimes frustrations, are all aspects of work life that make the experience much richer and for which I am grateful.
