Overview

A college located in Victoria embarked on a new build project aimed to enhance student life by creating a communal rooftop space that is both functional and aesthetically pleasing for students and staff to use as an area for relaxing and outdoor learning.

To ensure safety of staff and students, an assessment of the roof structure was conducted. This included evaluating the drainage systems, and any structural reinforcements necessary to support the waterproofing material. The requirement for the waterproofing solution needed to be able to withstand diverse weather conditions, such as heavy rain, UV exposure, and temperature fluctuations, hence the waterproofing mater put forward to use was the TREMply PVC membrane.

TREMply PVC was chosen for its lightweight characteristics, excellent workability, resistance to UV radiation and waterproofing capabilities. Bicon, the main contractor, began the installation process by laying the TREMply PVC sheets, which were mechanically fastened to the roof and hot air welded together.

Once the PVC was installed, additional elements such as pavers and planters were incorporated to enhance the functionality of the space.
