CHALLENGE
On many jobs, details on the blueprints are left for interpretation at the jobsite, and Restoration Services, Inc. can attest to it.
Wartburg-WaverlySports & WellnessCenteris billed as one of the nation’s largest NCAA Division III facilities of its kind, offering expansive facilities for college health and wellness and intercollegiate athletics.
While construction of the 200,000- square-foot facility was underway, Restoration Services, Inc. was installing Tremco Commercial Sealants & Waterproofing’s Paraseal® Sheet Membrane and TREMDrain® 1000 Series Multi-Composite Drainage and Protection Board on the 8,500-square-foot portion of below-grade vertical, concrete wall. When they approached the top, though, the substrate and grade had changed from concrete to two feet of rough-cut limestone. The Paraseal grade was higher than the limestone grade, which would make it extremely difficult to wrap the Paraseal around. A fluid-applied membrane would have to be used, but compatibility to the existing Paraseal membrane, Paraseal Termination Bar and Tremco’s Vulkem® 116 Polyurethane Sealant termination was imperative. Wartburg College required warranties for all of their waterproofing and deck coating components. Without proper documentation from previous projects demonstrating compatibility between the existing products and the fluid-applied membrane, obtaining acceptable warranties would be extremely difficult.
SOLUTION
Particularly when jobs are as complex as this one, when things don’t go exactly as planned, having knowledgeable sales and technical support on-site to make sure the right product is selected to respond to the situation is key. By having the breadth of products to choose from, what could have been a serious compatibility issue was easily resolved. Tremco sales and technical service reps were able to provide Restoration Services with a perfect resolution to the problem. TREMproof® 250GC Cold Fluid-Applied Waterproofing Membrane (Roller-Grade) is suitable for vertical foundation walls and can be applied to concrete, masonry, and metal surfaces. When fully applied, it’s seamless, leaving no room for error. Manufactured by Tremco, its compatibility to Paraseal Sheet Membrane, Paraseal Termination Bar and Vulkem 116 Polyurethane Joint Sealant is not an issue and there is supporting documentation.
In addition, Tremco’s Vulkem 360NF/950NF/951NF Deck Coating System was used to provide a protective, non-slip coating on patio areas and in four interior mechanical rooms – all additionally demanding applications.
By involving one manufacturer for all of these waterproofing and deck coating applications, Wartburg College was able to obtain the warranty they required, and they can rest assured that their facility is protected for many years to come.
